When we last left BeadBoy, he was getting ready to write his grant proposal to be sent of to a rather doting Nana. Here’s what he produced:
Hi Nana how are you?
I have this idea for starting a business. I’m going to call it the BeadBoy Company. What i’m going to do is IM going to make and sell necklaces. I’m going to sell them to kids who want them either for themselves or to give to their friends. It will consist of three designs (1)snowflakes (2) sports (3) Christmas. I’m choosing cheep but pretty beads so that I can keep the price low. Here are the colors of the beads I have chosen: turquoise blue red jet crystal green silver & gold. I will need beads wire clasps and crimps. I’m gonna need about $50.00 for all of this. I think you should invest in me because I am hard working and I have my mom to help me. Love Daniel
The response from the 1st Bank of Nana was not long in forthcoming:
Dear Daniel,
I have read your Grant Proposal and I think you have some good plans. I do know what a hard worker you are and I have decided to invest $35.00 to help you get started. Hopefully you can raise the rest of the amount or start smaller and reinvest your profits. I hope you sell lots of necklaces.[…]Love you heaps and bunches!
Nana
Daniel had $6 of his own money, so he wasn’t in bad shape!
Working together, he and I scaled back his projections for inventory slightly and ordered most of his supplies from Fire Mountain on Monday. A quick trip to Hobby Lobby procured the rest of his needs. And yes, his mommy will occasionally donate items from her own stock. I’m not totally heartless!
His beads arrived Thursday, and he has them all organized in a divided box donated by Mom. He started working yesterday on his first design. I’m really surprised at his creativity. He originally was planning a black and turquoise necklace (to symbolize the Carolina Panthers, you see), a blue and crystal for snowflakes, and of course, red and green for Christmas. But his first necklace is a jazzy combination of blue, black and clear with silver accents. The pattern is not just alternating colors, either. He’s putting some thought into this!
I’ve already had an inquiry about his sales… I can tell you that he should have his first pieces done by the end of the weekend and that he is planning to charge $5 per necklace. However, he will need to add postage if shipping is required.
Oh - and he’s changed his company’s name. He never was crazy about BeadBoy - that was my idea.
I am proud to introduce to you the (cue Star Wars theme)
Intergalactic Beading Company
or the IBC for short!
