Random Acts of Randomish Randomness

Filed under: Just Life — blestwithsons @ 2:04 pm

I am, like, sooooo obsessed with beading right now. It’s almost all I think about. Not that that’s all bad. I’ve been making a lot of stuff, like this:

and this

and this

or how about this?

Those are just a few… I have a lot more pictures to take. Two of these are already listed on my Etsy shop - and more will be soon. That’s really where all my attention has been lately, I must confess. Working the Etsy thing. It’s a very interesting community! Basically, it’s like a mini-blogosphere for artsy-craftsy people. (a wild and wacky bunch, dontcha know!) I’ve had great fun looking at lots of shops, doing some buying  , and getting to know people a bit in the forums. I’ve also had a few sales already. (woo hoo!) Please come visit my store if you haven’t already - or if you haven’t lately. I add new pieces almost every day, and I’d love feedback even if you don’t feel like buying.

I took a test yesterday that I found over at Bethany’s. It was VERY interesting! I scored 86 point something. I’d like to see how I’d do if I didn’t have a cold. (my ears go wonky when I’m sick)

Speaking of music, (which if you went and visited the test above, you’ll know I was speaking of music) I just posted again on the Aspergers website. I have been shamefully remiss in posting there and made a vow today to post at least once a week. Today’s post is all about music and the brain which might be interesting to you even if you don’t have an Asperger’s kid.

I got contacted today by a Fox reporter about my weight loss story…unfortunately it was a reporter in Georgia hoping I was running the upcoming Peachtree race. So, no imminent fame for me as far as I know. But I’m still losing and still toning what’s left. I gots me some muscles, yo!!

Speaking of music again, I’m really hungry for something new to listen to… but what?
________________________________________________
And speaking of new stuff… I have a birthday fast approaching. Anyone who wants to get me something, here is one place to look. And here is one place to buy gift certificates. (shameless, eh?) And of course, there’s always this. (really really shameless…) Oh! And I really, really want this - and you can only buy it here where I’ve linked it… (okay. I’ll stop now)

I’ve almost finished reading all of Dorothy Sayers’ Lord Peter books. I have to get one or two more from Paperback Swap. And speaking of PaperBack Swap, I’m getting ready to tackle this:

Hitchhiking Through Asperger Syndrome

and this:

The Einstein Syndrome: Bright Children Who Talk Late

Both of which came from Paperback Swap. Have you tried it yet? If you do, don’t forget to mention your friend Blest.

This recipe is ridiculously yummy. It’s my latest food addiction. Speaking of food, I think I’ll try South Beach’s Mocha Hazelnut brownies for my birthday dessert… doesn’t that sound good?

And just to finish things off with a shocking confession… I think it’s important for you to know that I now swear profusely. Really! When I’m really frustrated, like when a necklace I’ve been working on gets away from me and spills everywhere, I say “This is the part where I swear profusely” I don’t actually say anything after that…Well. Sometimes I use profanity. As in, I say “Profanity. Profanity. Profanity” in a low steady voice.

Aint it awful?

So how are you doing?

  1. Love how random your randomness is. *grin* Where’s the link to that recipe? And now, go wash your mouth out with soap. We don’t want to hear that kind of language. ;-)

  2. Oops! Recipe link added. It’s the radishes- which you already know about.

Are you mocking my randomness? I thought I was being random…but in my mind EVERYTHING connects…

  3. Well, now I’m cracking up. You = hilarious! I love, love, love the flower necklace. Boy do I love it! You shouldn’t make so many things that I’m lusting after! :S

    Neat-o about the Fox reporter!

  4. Hey, add that flower necklace to what I’m getting from you on Friday. I think I NEED it! :D

    Comment by Bethany — June 26, 2007 @ 3:02 pm

  5. Please. (I guess I shouldn’t be so dang bossy.)

    Comment by Bethany — June 26, 2007 @ 3:02 pm

  6.

  7. Oh yeah, the radishes. It sounds really weird. I’ll just have to try it one day.

    Comment by Anita — June 26, 2007 @ 4:15 pm

  8. Radishes…never thought of that. That alone is pretty random. I recently found a good recipe for roasted red pepper soup that used no cream, and I subbed vegetable stock for the chicken stock so it was completely veggie and low-calorie (I think) and really tasty nonetheless.

I’m not sure what style of music you like, but as you have been given no suggestions yet, here are some things I’ve been enjoying lately. (Were you asking? I wasn’t sure, but here you go anyway.)

    - The Ringing Bell by Derek Webb
    - Blue on Blue, Leigh Nash
    - Here’s to Hindsight, Tara Leigh Cobble
    - Add to the Beauty, Sara Groves
    - Sunshine on Leith, The Proclaimers (This one never gets old)
    - Work to be Done, Steven Delopoulos (not yet released, free download of work-in-progress at http://www.stevendelopoulos.com/)
    - The Best of Aretha Franklin
    - All That I Can’t Leave Behind, U2
    - Burlap to Cashmere, Burlap to Cashmere
    - The Capitol Years, Frank Sinatra
    - The Man Comes Around, Johnny Cash

As for the swearing, shame on ya–not. I personally gravitate to the Yosemite Sam/Mr. Potter (from It’s a Wonderful Life) curses like “Confound it, boy!” and “Tarnation!” and the like. The wife has been know to mutter “rassle frassle” under her breath when the dishwasher doesn’t work or something.

  9. Oh yes…I had The Proclaimers album. Loved it!

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 26, 2007 @ 5:31 pm

  10. I can tell the the difference between margarine and butter,
I can say “Saskatchewan” without starting to stutter…”

best lyrics to be found in a nationalist song.

  11. And Blest heads back to iTunes…laughing.

Y’know, I already bought 500 miles months ago. Now I may have to give in and download the whole thing.

What’s next - I have to revisit Oingo Boingo?

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 26, 2007 @ 9:20 pm

  12. Sorry, Oingo Boingo is a cipher to me. I only know the Proclaimers because I heard 500 Miles in the movie Benny & Joon and I tracked it down. I liked the CD though and play it often.

    Comment by chip — June 26, 2007 @ 9:47 pm

  13. Isn’t that how we all got to the Proclaimers?

That movie had a great soundtrack in its own right, too. Really good instrumentals.

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 27, 2007 @ 5:15 am

  14. On of Oingo Boingo’s best known songs was also a movie one…the title track of Weird Science!

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 27, 2007 @ 5:16 am

  15. I have been known to announce, when completely frustrated, that I am “about to begin cursing!” I never actually do, somehow just that announcement makes me feel better. LOL

    Comment by Leigh — June 27, 2007 @ 5:49 am

  16. Ah Leigh, so you’re naughty too!

Post just edited to fix the link to one of my absolutely shameless (and crass - my mommy said it was crass) plugs for places to buy birthday gifts.

    Just sayin…

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 27, 2007 @ 6:51 am

  17. Yay Blest, you’re back. I love random, random is good. I know what it’s like to see the connections, but everyone else had no idea where it’s going.
We need to talk sometime soon…

    Comment by Debs — June 27, 2007 @ 11:21 am

  18. Oh dear, I think the weight loss has gone to your head!!!

    Comment by nikki — June 27, 2007 @ 1:44 pm

  19. Well it has….

But what do you mean? :?

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 27, 2007 @ 1:55 pm

  20. I mean, you may be losing your mind! But in a good way. I certainly didn’t mean you are conceited, it kinda sounded that way. Sorry.

    Comment by nikki — June 27, 2007 @ 4:19 pm

  21. No worries!! I wasn’t offended or anything- just curious! And I didn’t think you meant conceited. Actually, I thought you just meant that some of my lbs lost has come from my grey matter…which is possible!

    Comment by blestwithsons — June 27, 2007 @ 5:23 pm

  22. I’ve had fun reading the Dorothy Sayers books too. Thanks for the recommendation!
